Carol's Daughter: Some of Marguerite's Magic

I do not know why I am so determined to make the Carol's Daughter line of hair care products work for me, but I am.  I have tried numerous products with less than stellar results.  Yet again, I decided to try Carol's Daughter while in Sephora this past weekend.  I got Some of Marguerite's Magic and the Mimosa Hair Honey.

First, a little background on my hair.  If you do not know, I am a black woman with natural 3c/4a/4b hair.  My hair loves shea butter, coconut oil and castor oil.  Shealoe is a staple at my house.  I use Aussie Moist or Yes to Tomatoes conditioner to cowash and detangle my hair.  I am always on the look out for the next great thing!  I am a reforming Product Junkie.  Enough about that; my thoughts/review after the break...

Today, I am going to talk about Some of Marguerite's Magic.  What first attracted me to this product was the need for find something that was more "wet" for my hair.  I love my shea butter and coconut oil mixture, but I want something that is a little more "wet" for my twists, to give my twistouts a little more weight and definition.  Something that I do not have to wash out every morning.

After hearing and reading some reviews, I decided to try the product.  I cowashed my hair (using conditioner to wash the hair instead of shampoo) and then applied Some of Marguerite's Magic to my wet hair.  At first, I loved what I was feeling.  It was catching all of my flyaways and making my rough hair feel soft and smooth.  I was also getting the "wetness" that I wanted.  It smelled great.  I completed my twists and just hung out at home the rest of the evening letting my twists air dry.  This smells slightly different on the hair than it does in the jar if that makes any sense.  The smell is better, in my opinion, on the hair than in the jar.  I love how it smells and constantly had a twist stuck to my nose so that I could smell my hair.

When I woke in the morning and looked in the mirror, I knew something was wrong.  My hair looked dry!  I proceeded to take down my twists and my fears were confirmed.  My hair was dry, frizzy and going in a million different directions.  There was no way I was going to get the twist out that I wanted.  My only choice was to wet my hair and try to get all of my parts to come together.  I did that and squeezed out the excess water.

As my hair dried during the day, it continued to look dry, frizzy and have some major shrinkage.  By the time I got home, I was not happy with the way my hair looked at all.  When I tried to do my twists again that night,  using a different product, my hair was dry, brittle and tangled.

I think this product is more for people who have relaxed hair or who press their natural hair.

MY FINAL SAY:
Will I buy this again, NO!

Have you tried this product and loved it???  Do you use this product in a different way?  Could you give me some tips on how to make this product work or me?  If so, let us know.

This product was purchased with my own money for my own personal usage.  I am not affiliated with this company.

  1. Hi, I just happened to come across your blog. I recently purchased this same product off of HSN (still waiting for it to arrive). After reading your post I am hoping that I have not wasted my money. I think CD body care products are MUCH better than the hair care stuff (although I do love the Black Vanilla Leave In Conditioner Spray). Anyway, just wondering if you have tried it on dry or mostly dry hair?

  2. Hey!! Thanks for checking out my blog. I hope that you like what you see.

I have never tried this product on dry or mostly dry hair. I only used it that one time, right out of the shower after letting the towel soak up most of the water. My hair was more wet than dry.

I would love to hear if this product works for you. Let me know the results that you get.

  3. Hey Sis! OK so I finally received my Marguerite's Magic. I liked the texture of the product and it went on the hair nicely, no white build up. I applied a generous amount of product to barely damp hair and created two-stranded twists. The product gave my hair a decent shine but there was major shrinkage. I am wearing my twists to work today but, I will try a twist out tomorrow and see if the shine sticks around. - Aysha

  5. Wow! I had the same problem. Thanks for posting this because my fears are confirmed. This product seems great at first, but my hair is even drier than before once I use it. It causes major shrinkage and my hair breaks constantly and will not accept moisture at all from anything else after using it.

  6. Thanks for checking out my blog! I am sorry that it has taken me awhile to get back to you. Life has been rolling right along and sadly, no matter how hard I try, I do not have as much time for my blog as I previously did.

Thanks for your opinion on this product. Now, when it comes to Carol's Daughter, I stick to the bath and body products. The hair care line is not for me!
